Facing My Fears: I Jumped Out of a Perfectly Good Airplane!

The Ultimate Leap of Faith! ✈️💨
For as long as I can remember, Skydiving has been a permanent fixture on my bucket list. It was always underlined, bolded, and accompanied by a mental image of me screaming my lungs out (of joy? terror? probably both!). When I started using The List Challenge (Bucket Buddy), it was one of the first items I added, complete with a due date: "Sometime before I chicken out!"
Prep Mode: AKA "Trying Not to Hyperventilate" 😅
Signing up was the easy part. The days leading up to the jump? A cocktail of excitement and sheer panic. I watched countless skydiving videos (bad idea for the nerves, great for understanding the process!). I meticulously planned every detail in The List Challenge app:
- Research reputable skydiving centers.
- Book the tandem jump.
- Add "Write will (just kidding... mostly)" to additional notes. 😜
- Schedule diiner for after the jump! (optimism is key!).
My friends, who were checking in with me, were a mix of "You're insane!" and "You've got this!" Their comments were actually super encouraging!
D-Day: Door of the Plane vs. My Sanity
The training on the ground was thorough and reassuring. My tandem instructor was a legend – calm, confident, and clearly used to people looking like they might bolt at any second. The plane ride up was surprisingly serene... until the door opened.
THAT MOMENT. The wind rushing in, the world a tiny patchwork quilt below, my brain screaming, "WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?!" There was no turning back. Just a deep breath, a "Geronimo!" (I think? It might have been more of a squeak), and then... WOOOSH!

Freefallin' & Floatin' 🤩
The freefall was indescribable. A sensory overload of wind, speed, and the most incredible, unrestricted view imaginable. It wasn't scary anymore; it was PURE. ADRENALINE. JOY. Then the parachute opened with a gentle tug, and suddenly, silence. Floating peacefully under the canopy, gazing at the world from a bird's-eye view – it was magical.
Sticking the landing (with a little help from my instructor) felt like winning an Olympic gold medal. I was buzzing, grinning like an idiot, and ready to do it all over again!
My Two Cents on Taking the Plunge:
If skydiving is on your list, or any big, scary, exhilarating adventure:
- Do Your Research: Safety first! Pick a reputable place.
- Don't Overthink It (Too Much): Once you've committed, try to ride the wave of excitement.
- Breathe: Sounds simple, but it helps!
- Document It: Photos, videos, journal entries – you'll want to relive this. I immediately updated my item in The List Challenge with a triumphant "COMPLETED!" and a photo.
- Celebrate! You earned it!
This skydiving adventure wasn't just about ticking off an item; it was about pushing my boundaries, facing a massive fear, and realizing I'm capable of so much more than I thought.
What's that one big, scary, amazing thing on YOUR bucket list? The List Challenge (Bucket Buddy) is the perfect tool to help you break it down, plan it out, and build up the courage to take that leap!
